We were three girls in desperate need of a holiday and a cocktail (or five). So we booked flights to Budapest. When we reached the airport we ordered ourselves a mimosa each, regardless of the fact that it was before 7am.
After two hours stuck on a Wizz Air flight with my legs crushed into the seat in front of me, we arrived in the Hungarian capitol.
My first instinct whenever I go somewhere I have never been somewhere before is to find something tall to climb to get a lay of the land. When I saw St Stephen’s Basilica I could not resist but demand we climb the three hundred odd steps to the top.
The views were definitely worth it.
And from the moment I reached the top I fell in love at first sight. I was head over heels and ready to have a four day whirlwind romance.
And who doesn’t love a cheeky funicular railway?
This place had me grinning from ear to ear
Their parliament building is a site to behold and oddly reminds me of our Houses of Parliament right on the river.
Budapest also looks mighty pretty at night.
On our first evening we had tickets to the hottest party in town Sparty. The biggest thermal baths in Budapest turned into a club for the night. Bikini on, drink in hand, lots of chatty Americans, it was like a scene straight out of an American teen movie. Surreal but brilliant. We didn’t take our cameras in (for obvious reasons) so you’ll just have to trust me when I say, if you’re going to Budapest and are over 18, do it!
We also had our fill of Hungarian culture. There was a festival on in the town square that celebrated Hungarian culture through music and dancing.
We spent the hottest afternoon of our visit in one of Budapest’s famous thermal baths
Loved having time to catch up with the girls.
When we’ve finished pretending to be sophisticated however, we got back to our uni days with a round of ‘I have never…’ and hit one of Budapest’s infamous ruin bars.
We chose Instant, a bar with an enchanted forest theme. It felt like walking into a psychedelic wonderland.
I however didn’t trust myself to keep my camera safe, those photos are in Jenny’s possession. Maybe I’ll show you another time.
